How to charge travel fees for mobile detailing
Every mile you drive to a customer costs you gas, wear on your van, and time you could spend on another car. A travel fee doesn't have to be complicated — it just has to be consistent.
The problem: long drives on small jobs
A maintenance wash 25 minutes away can take most of a morning once you count driving, setup, and pack-down. If the price is the same as a job down the street, the far job quietly pays you less per hour.
A simple distance-tier approach
Many detailers keep a free service area and add a flat fee for farther drives. Here's an example setup — you pick your own distances and amounts:
- • 0–5 miles: no travel fee
- • 5–15 miles: $20 travel fee
- • 15+ miles: $45 travel fee
Flat tiers are easier to explain to customers than per-mile charges, and they stop you from guessing on every quote.

How OpsDrive Pro handles it
You save your starting address and your own fee tiers once. When you price a job, OpsDrive Pro looks up the driving distance to the customer's address and adds the matching travel fee to the quote. You mark a quote Paid after the customer pays you — OpsDrive Pro doesn't collect customer payments.
Try it on your own jobs
